Riverside City College will add one full-time faculty member and 10 students to its registered nursing program thanks to a two-year grant from the state.

RCC was among 18 colleges that shared $2.7 million in funds under the Song-Brown program administered by the Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development. Sandy Baker, dean of RCC's School of Nursing, said Tuesday that RCC ranked first among the applicants based on a review of its nursing program, pass rates on licensing exams and diversity of students.

Most of the money will be used to hire an additional full-time faculty member to accommodate another 10 students. The remainder will be used to purchase a retention and remediation package to help first-year students get through the program.
