Riverside City College will add one full-time faculty member and 10 students to its registered nursing program thanks to a two-year grant from the state.

RCC was among 18 colleges that shared $2.7 million in funds under the Song-Brown program administered by the Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development. RCC's share is $273,000.

Sandy Baker, dean of RCC's School of Nursing, said Tuesday that RCC ranked first among the applicants based on a review of its nursing program, pass rates on licensing exams and diversity of students.

Most of the money will be used to hire an additional full-time faculty member to accommodate another 10 students. Wales to get more district nurses

THE number of district nurses in Wales is set to increase as Health Minister Edwina Hart yesterday announced training places will double.

Almost 100 training places for district nurses will be available in Welsh universities from September, up from 45 currently.

And Mrs Hart also announced a small increase in the number of pre-registration nursing places.
